Jan/Feb 2010 Your high school Junior could earn a free trip to Washington D.C.
![]() Farmers Telecommunications Cooperative is looking for high school Juniors who are interested in earning a free trip to the nation’s captial in June as part of the FRS Washington Youth Tour. Two high school students ages 16 or 17 years old will be chosen from schools in FTC’s service area to make the all-expense paid four-day trip to Washington, D.C. FRS will not accept any student 18 years of age and over. Interested students must submit a three- to five-minute written speech on the topic “How My Wireless Phone Has Impacted My Life.” Students will deliver their speeches and awarded points on areas such as grammar, posture and clarity of message. The two top-scoring students will be chosen to participate in the Youth Tour. The program is administered by the Foundation for Rural Service. This organization was founded in 1994 to help strengthen the ties between rural communities and their families and businesses. The program provides rural students with a first-hand look at the telecommunications industry. Students are exposed to the legislative process, and are given opportunities to visit historic sites such as the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. Students will also have an opportunity to meet and make new friends with other high school students from across the nation.
