| In the summer of 1997, on the cover of the fourth issue of Connected, five children were photographed on the playground at Henagar Park. They were (clockwise from top left) Betsy Arnold, Kayleigh Smith, Kyle Williams, Ellen Williams and Lucas Smith. It’s eleven years later and the girls just graduated high school. To mark the occasion we decided to restage the photograph for this month’s issue of Connected. |

“Fiddles are my love,” says Lebron Batey of Sylvania. He has been crafting these homemade instruments for almost a decade, and his fiddles are generating a timeless melody across the country. Batey’s woodworking shop is right at home in his backyard. He built it nine years ago to accommodate a stress-relieving hobby. |

| On Thursday, May 8, Northeast Alabama Community College held its commencement ceremonies at the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum in Rainsville. It marked the first time graduation has been held off campus, necessitated by the largest graduating class in NACC history.
The move to a larger facility for graduation epitomizes the tremendous growth taking place at NACC. With more than 2,500 students taking courses here, the college has seen an incredible 47 percent increase in enrollment since the fall of 2001. |

| Even though it lies across the state line, Chattanooga is the local news market for the people on the northern end of Sand Mountain. And although he has been a Tennessee resident for a number of years, David Carroll is still considered the hometown boy who brings us the news. |

| On February 17, 2009, TV stations will cease broadcasting in analog and switch to all digital signals. Analog TV sets not connected to cable, satellite, or other pay-TV service (in other words, TVs that use antennas or ‘rabbit ears’ for over-the-air TV) will need a digital converter box after February 17. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before to receive low-power, Class A or translator TV stations and with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players and similar products. The federal government is offering discount coupons for viewers who need to purchase converter boxes for analog TV sets. For more information on the DTV transition or if you have any additional questions please visit the Web site www.DTV.gov. For discount coupons, visit www.dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009). |

Sometimes, doing what is best for you involves admitting to ourselves that we need help. We have known for a while that the overwhelming majority of our wireless customers need nationwide calling plans at better rates than we can provide. For over two years we have carefully studied the best way to do this for you. It was clear that a national carrier had to be part of the solution. The results of our work paid off. We made the decision that the best way to provide wireless telephone service to you is through an authorized agency agreement with AT&T. |
